Automatic Transmission Mount - 68-77 VS. 80
Is there a difference between auto trans mounts? Yesterday I crawled under my Vette and removed the trans frame cross member from my '80 and swapped it with a two hole cross member from a '76. The '76 uses a bracket that is bolted on and the '80 has a welded bracket. The problem is that with the stock '80 trans mount the trans sits way to low, about 1.5". :eek:
Either the cross member is bent or I need a new higher (bigger) trans mount. :rolleyes: This project like most has become a major P.I.T.A.!!! :mad All I want is dual exhaust. I may just take my '80 cross member to a shop and have them cut/weld a new section in.

Yes, there is a difference in the transmission mounts. 1968-79 use mount GM #22188495. 1980-82 used mount GM #14018920. This mount has been discontinued, but there may be a supercessive part number. I'm not sure at the moment. Your GM dealer will be able to check using this number.
Be advised, though, that the GM mounts, while being the best available, are also the most expensive available. Good things usually are. So, if you don't want to deal with that, you may want to try aftermarket from a parts store. They'll likely be imported from who-knows-where, but they'll be cheaper.
