I've got a 76 with a ZZ4 and I am looking for a serpentine set up on a budget. The GM setup is like $750 with a/c compressor and all accessories. Any issues that anyone knows of ? Anyone have this setup?
I just bought a 75 with a nice small block in it. It has a serpentine belt set up off a 4.3 V-6 blazer on it now,(this is what the engine was in before the vette and they left it complete to install it), it fits nicely under the hood and looks clean.
I will have it up for sale, I am going to pull the small block out and go big block to bracket race it.
You can e-mail me at gregurek@***.net if you want some pic of it or intrested in it.
I think the GM setup is a C4 TPI setup, which I have and like. The V6 Blazer setup is probably similar to a pickup/Suburban. I can't remember hearing if anybody has one of those in a Vette. There are several members with F-body setups as well. If you find that the pickup setup works, I have at least 2 of those and would sell one very reasonable, let me know if interested.
I've mounted the GMPP Serpentine on my ZZ4. Fits fine. Two exceptions: (1) the GMPP kit comes with an idler wheel to replace the smog pump pulley. The idler wheel will interfere with the passenger side spring/upper control arm tower. Solution: (a) install the idler wheel support bracket upside down, you'll have to grind a tiny bit off the support bracket to make it fit into the cast aluminum support structure, (b) eliminate this idler wheel all together. I opted for solution (a)
One of the bolts that mounts the AC cast aluminum structure to the head will not fit. The GMPP instructions say to just forget it - its not needed. Also the PS pump high pressure output port has metric threads. You have to buy a metric to english adapter. This will cost $6 or $8. I thought the GMPP cast iron reverse rotation water pump was a little gross. I replaced it with an aluminum reverse rotation pump sold by Edelbrock.
Also, I thought the crank pulley/water pump/PS pulleys didn't look good and also would spin the water pump and PS pump at too high of rpms. I replaced these pulleys with an underdrive set-up. I purchased these aluminum pulleys from March.
When I bought the GMPP kit, I didn't even know March existed. If I had it to do again, I would have seriously considered March. Considering that the GMPP kit gives you a new modern alternator, a new PS pump, and a new water pump it is a fairly good deal cost wise.

The system that is on my 75 is supposto be off a S-series blazer with a 4.3 in it.
Thei engine is out of there after a v-8 swap was done on the blazer, the complete setup along with the engine and 700-R4 was transplanted to the vette.
This system looks different from the truck system that I have seen. It fits well under the hood and there is no pollution pump on it.
It uses the late style alternator like on a 96 vortec truck also.

There was a Blazer/S10 PU serpentine setup on e-bay last week that went for less than $100 (+Shipping) I didn't bid on it cause it appeared to be for the lonq waterpump. Can you tell if your waterpump is short or long? Vette salvage yards are quoting $500 for a c4 tpi serpentine setup. I think that makes the GMPP setup a bargain at $750 with all new accessories. I agree that the March setup looks great and is very nice quality, but $2100 plus for the complete sbc setup for AC and PS is a bit out of range with all of the other places to spend $$ on a c3. I will be off work this Friday and had scavenging plans at the local junk yard any how so, I guess I might be adding to the list.
From what I've read the GMPP kit is uses components that were originally installed on 1991 adn 1992 Firebirds and Camaros. I believe some people have posted messages on the forum saying that have got the equivalent of the GMPP kit from salvage yards.
Anyhow, I didn't know the March serpentine got up to the $2000's. That, in my opinion, makes the GM kit much more attractive. The aluminum castings (that replace brackets) are OK, but if they were polished up I'd think the GMPP would really look great.
I have the GM setup on the 73,
You can pick all you need at the junkyard pickapart,88 thru 92 camaro ,or firebird, caprice, brakets alt,ps long reverse wp,
the thing about the metric ps hose is swap out the big nut where it screws on too from your old pump,it screws right out ,then get the ac delete pulley, and air pump delete and turn it upside down ,youll have to grind a little to make it work upside down,it will run about 300 bux when done
These are my MArch Pulleys that came with the crate engine I got from The Engine Factory (www.enginefactory.com) and they certainly didnt add $2k to the price!
I don't know how to add a hyper link, but the summit part number is NAL-12497698. I think this is the GMPP kit everyone is refering to. If so sounds like it will work with minor mods and it's all new.
