Was too lazy to crawl under the car before going to get new oil filter. Did not remember size, so I looked it up at the AutoZONE and bought the PH30. Ramped the vette up, drained the oil and noticed oild filter PH13. CRAP. Which one is right? 350cid SB
If memory serves me right, they should be both be the same thread, etc... It's just one is longer then the other. Guys who can will use the longer filter if there is no obstruction.
I'm assuming you bought Fram. They'll both work. One is just a higher capacity than the other. If you REALLY want to do the right thing by your car. Take it back and get the AC Delco Duragard PF35. It's a MUCH better filter. Fram's are pretty bad these days.
If you REALLY want a good filter and are willing to spend the extra bucks it takes to get it, get yourself an AC UPF-1218 "Ultraguard" oil filter. These filters use a fully synthetic media and are capable of filtering out particles much smaller than paper elements are able to. These filters cost about $9.00, though, and you can find them at Pep Boys.
Or you can get K&N filter at Autozone for about $10.00. It filters all the way down to about 20 micron.

Jim
My concern about these filters relates to flow. If you get too fine a media, you can restrict the ability to flow and do more harm then good. According to the study, this can be offset by greater media surface, but that can cause problem if the pleats are too narrow and close together. I don't know how much media surface area these have or how deep or wide their pleats are, so I really can't comment on whether they are better or whether the one I'm using is better. I do know that the AC Delco Duragaurd got a good review and it works well for me.
The media used in the AC Ultraguard synthetic media filters is not configured like conventional paper filters, so there are no "pleats" or "folds". Actually, I think that these filters will flow BETTER and have MORE CAPACITY than a conventional, pleated paper filter. I use them EXCLUSIVELY now. In fact, these filters are the first REALLY SIGNIFICANT improvement in filtering technology since the first oil filter (optional then) was put on a 1955 Chevrolet. Bsically, oil filter elements from 1955 until the first synthetic media filter came on the market (the AC PF-35L about 1985) were just about all the same (no matter what the marketers claimed).
