Default Big Block exhaust

Ok I got my 21/8 inch primary undercar supercomp headers installed and have a problem. I guess these are different than others I have seen on C3's because they end only about 8 inches short of the collectors and quite a bit outboard of them. As such I don't know how in the hell I am going to run undercar 3" exhaust through the crossmember. I have a 502 so I need 3 inches. I am perplexed. Any body have any ideas. It doesn't look like there is any way they can be routed through the crossmember. By the way, to Chuck Harmon, that exhaust sounds incredible, and a great looking car. Thanks.

I took my x-member off after marking them straight back from the collector. My cuts ended up being @ 6 inches out board of the original two holes. I went to a semi truck repair place and bought two 5 or 6 inchs length of 4 inch mild steel exhaust pipe. Then I cut out the bottom side of the cross member (two less than half circles) and welded up. so my three inch system fit right through.

I have 3 inch no cats back to 3 in and out vortec mufflers with 3 1/2 X 12 inch chrome tips.

The rear wheels are 11X17 with 315 tires which your going to need! :yesnod:

Thanks for the reply Gkull your system looks great. I was just on the spintech mufflers site looking at their oval tubing. It looks like I could run oval under the crossmember and my collectors would still be lower than the oval pipe going under the crossmember. I would like to run it to an x-pipe then out back into 3 inch welded ultraflows. How does this sound. Has anybody used it? It is expensive but not compared to some of the quotes I have had to build me a system. Anywhere form 900 to 1300 dollars for custom work. I live about an hour north of New YOrk City. Any one know of a good exhaust shop up here. Thanks and please keep the ideas coming.

Like George I cut half circles out of the bottom of the crossmember and welded half pipes into the crossmember to allow the new 3 inch exhaust to pass under the crossmember. I like it under rather then through so the intire exhuast can be removed without taking any of the pipes apart.

Norvals system is far better than mine. The idea of not passing through anything makes working on the system so much nicer. He also went with stainless pipe. Instead of an X-pipe I talked to a muffler shop about taking a 8 inch or so piece of 6 inch dia and ovaling it. Then cut out a section of the three inchers where they nearly come together under differential. Then welding the section in. I've only considered it as a quieting measure.

So it would be a massive 2 into 1 into 2 out system. :seeya
