Default front control arm questions

I'm putting my front suspension back together and have a few questions.

First, the easy one...I couldn't find anything in the AIM or the service manual about where the bolt w/ the cushion for the lower ball join goes. My Haynes said it is on the front side, but I just want to double check...here's a picture:

Second, I really couldn't find anything very clear on how many shims to put in initially for the upper control arms. I shimmed the bolt towards the front at 5/32", and the rear at 9/32", based on a picture of the old setup before I took them apart (I know, I should have kept better track of them). Here's a picture:

Should I change anything? Thanks in advance.

yep, bolt with the large head goes on the front
for the shims, just get it as close as you can to how it came off and take it to an alignment shop. You're going to need an alignment anyway if you're messing with any suspension/steering components and it won't hurt anything for a short drive as long as its close
