Default Pre oil engine

I put the Vet on the ground for the first time in about 8 months, with the new motor in I lost alot of weight with all the aluminum parts, the car sits alittle to high for my taste. Anyway I am attempting to pre oil the motor but I'm not haveing much luck. I have a 7 qt oil pan with 7 1/2 qts of oil in it and a high volume oil pump, I filled the filter "full" prior to installing it, I cut up and gutted a 86 Corvette HEI to prime it with and I'm spinning it clock wise with my trusty drill motor, I'm getting little to no oil through the roller rockers with the drill running full speed for a minute or so. I'm I doing some thing wrong?

And try bumping the engine over a few revs. to allow full flow to all lifters.

To slow? I guess I could plug in my 3200 rpm air drill motor and clock the engine to different degrees

When the oil pressure comes up, the drill should labor. Then the oil flow will follow in a minute or so.

Well I am getting a very small amount out of some of the push rods, I was thinking there should be more volume.

Nope, most of the oil is used in the bearings. All sounds fine.

I just finished double checking all the bolts from under the car and hooking up the side pipes prior to lowering it down, I want to be able to hear any detonation during break in, I have Kieth Black pistons with the upper rings gaped properly and don't need the problems msvetteman is haveing. After break in I'm swaping in a TPI system, I don't want to deal with breaking in the cam and sorting out the bugs with the TPI at the same time.

77:
Oil pump (& cam & dist) run at half speed of engine ... so a 600 rpm drill makes the pump think it's in an engine running 1200 rpm.

While the drill is spinning ... and once you get some oil at pushrods ... have someone put a socket & pull handle on the damper bolt ... pull the crank through at least 2 full revs WHILE you've got a load on spinning primer ... this allows the oil passages to briefly align and pump more oil to top.
