Default 69 427 block

I was just about to install this into my sons 68 chevelle when I was told this block possibly came out of a 69 vette. The casting # on the rear left reads like this "3955270". Is this correct and if it is am I missing out on some coin? Whats it worth to the right person and how rare is it? Its 60 over and has been decked so there are no numbers on the front.

It was definitely a 1969 engine. Without the stamp numbers, it is hard to tell definitely what it came out of. It did come with a variation of 335-435hp and came in 2 bolt or 4 bolt.

Its a 4 bolt. Are they rare or do I just use it as intended?

Hi

It is used in 1969 Vettes for all power ranges including the L88 option.
So, you could try to sell it. They should bring from 2000 to 3500 USD . Try E-bay with a reserve up to you to decide.
If it was for 68 , I would be a candidate.

Good luck. Günther

Post the casting date. You might have a couple takers right here on the board.

From MoreTec's website:

BLOCK CASTING DATE on the rear ledge of the block near the bell housing mounting surface. If you have an early big block the BLOCK CASTING DATE may be on the passenger side of the engine block near the freeze plug, (see 2A).

The casting dates look something like this "E 12 7". The "E" stands for the month of the year with "A" being the month of January, "B" being the month of February and so on thru the letters to December. The "12" stands for the 12th day of the month. The "7" is the year of the decade.

might be a replacement on the 68 block...68 427 blocks blocks for 390 to 435hp are 3916321 or 3935439 "aluminum heads for the 435hp". unless it is a replacement engine maybe..
you could do your own DD work on this but here it is:

69 engines blocks are :
3932386: 3932388 are for 350ci, 300hp, 350hp
3935439: are for 427ci, 390hp,400hp, 430,hp, 435hp
3946052: 427hp, 430hp, (ZL1)
3955270, 3953512: 427ci, 390hp,400hp,430, 435hp
3956618, 3970010: 350, 300hp,350hp
