Default retro-fitting a roller cam

Well now that I have replacement block for my cracked stroker motor (thanks again Randy) I am looking to change to a hydraulic roller cam......the block is an old style 2-piece rear seal. I know their are some roller lifters with "bars" that prevent them from spinning in their bores.....what are all the parts I would need for the changeover???

Since the block is going to the machine shop for mag/wash/bore/hone/machine for stokercrank, can I have it machined to accept non-conversion style cam/lifters??? or do I need to stick with the conversion kit??

I am looking for a set-up that will be pushing 500hp for the 383...(I already have 1.6 roller rockers)...so maybe a cam with ~.500-.530 lift (not including 1.6 ratio rockers).....Aluminum RPM heads are at the shop for a port polish...should gain>40cfm

Any fav. roller set-ups??????

Thanks

This was just discussed (in a thread started by me) a few weeks ago. A guy sells directions for $20 on eBay.

The above retrofit of modern roller parts is really cool, wish I would have known about it sooner.

I run the Comp Cams retro lifters and camshaft (specs below). You will also need new pushrods, and a cam button and cam button retainer. I got a pushrod size tool to figure the proper length.

With flat top pistons, AFR 195 heads, this engine is rated +\- 385 RWHP.

Cam Specs:

Part Number: 12-000-8

Custom Grind: CS 3109S / 3112S HR112+4

Intake Exhaust
Gross Valve Lift: .513 .510

Duration @ 276 290
.006 Tappet Lift:

Valve Timing: Open Closed
@ .050: Int: 2 BTDC 38 ABDC
Exh: 51 BBDC 1- ATDC

These specs are for cam installed @ 108.0 Intake Center Line:
Intake Exhaust
Duration @ .050 220 230
Lobe Lift .3420 .3400
Lobe Seperation 112.0

Nice idle, good vacuum, sounds like a big block, and loads of torque.

The horror stories I've heard about the link-bar design scared me away from the retrofits (not to mention the price). That's why I started wondering if something wasn't possible with factory parts.
