it started at as a stalling problem.the engine would stall and it would take a lot of cranking for it to start again,,I noticed after it stalled there was no gas being pumped from the accelerator pump. but the engine would start and idle..Its a 3 month old edelbrock preformer 600 cfm carb..I checked the fuel pressure it pulsed between 3and 5 psi at idle and 6 psi at 2000 rpm.. when I pinched the outlet hose from the pump I felt a gurggling in the fuel line.and you can see the line move with every pulse, .and I did replace the fuel filter..I think I'll try to change the pump today and JEGS is sending me a new carb on thursday..any other thoughts..MIKE PS after it runs for a while the acceleratr pump works fine..I guess the carb fills back up with gas

I had the exact same symptoms, except I had a Holley carb. My accelerator pump- a mechanical, diaphragm type,- was dryed out and cracked from sitting too long. I don't know exactly how the Performer carb pumps your priming shot of fuel, but that sounds like the problem. The car will start and run on the idle and main jets, but a quick launch/heavy acceleration will stall it. Best of luck-- glad to hear that Jeg's is standing behind their sale.
I'm having similar problems with my '78. I'm replacing my mechanical fuel pump in the next day or two as well. Keep us posted as to what luck you have, I'll do the same.
It Was The Fuel Pump..had It Changed And Its Running Fine, I Think It Needs A Fuel Pressure Regulator Though.. Edelbrock Carbs Run Best A 6 Psi, The New Pump Is Putting Out About 8psi. Thanks For The Input ..mike
