If you can not see the source it may be a freeze plug at the back of the engine block. The trans has to be dropped to get at it. Cost of freeze plug - negligible - a buck or two, cost of labor to drop trans and install said plug, well that is another story...
Good luck!
Also could be coming off the back of the intake. Could be coming between the head and block. You need to pressurize the system with it cold so you can find the leak.
That's exactly where I noticed my 78SA leaking from. Rear water passage at the intake manifold. Dripping from the starter and the hole at the bottom of the flywheel cover. New intake gaskets cured it.
Y'all were right. It was a freeze plug. Machine Shop said they would come to the house and replace it. Engine was done about two years ago. How about that for service?

Now that's what I call "customer service".Put his name and number up on the site for people to see in case someone else in your area needs some work from a great shop like that.
Service sounds almost too good to be true! Are they gonna replace it with a metal one that's a drive-in fit like what's probably in there (correct but difficult to do in car) ... or ... with a rubber&steel type that tightens with a wrench (cheap & MUCH easier to do)?

Said he would only use a drive-in. Neal's Cylinder Heads in Murfreesboro, TN. Its a father and Son operation. They mainly stay busy on racing engines. They have only been here for a couple of years. I just stopped in when I started my project and really felt good about the place. He talked me out of a couple of things I thought were "necessary" that he could have easily profited off of.
if it coming from the area of the starter i would check the hose clamps on the heater hoses going right there to the heater core,,give them a 1/4 turn with a ratchet
