Oil Pressure Gauge Adapter Fitting?
I'd like to use a steel braided line, but can't find anything that will hook up to the stock gauge.
I did a search (yes, it worked this time with the "archive" button selected) and found a few threads. One even had a link to a Summit PN, but it turned out to be a K&N air filter
So, what fitting do I need to adapt to a -3an or -4an to the stock gauge? Or 1/8npt to the stock gauge, etc.
Anyone have a clue? Anyone with any pics or part numbers or source for this devious little fitting?
Earl's has all the various and sundry adapters that you might need, such as a 45-degree 1/8" NPT male to -4AN male which is handy for right at the back of the intake manifold for SBC.
If you want to get into fab'ing your own hoses, Earl's also sells all the hose-ends and parts which you can assemble with ordinary tools. Use the -4AN Speedflex hose with steel hose-ends.
I use a Dremel tool with a cut-off wheel to cut the braided hose. wrap the hose with several layers of masking tape, very tight, before cutting. that keeps the braided hose from fraying.
Earl's is a subsidiary of Holley nowadays.

I know it can be a real pain getting a line to fit the stock gauge on these Corvettes. I've been through this a few times and again just last week. I know that a lot of the lines, nylon and copper are too loose in the gauge fitting for the ferrule to tighten up properly. I'm not sure I understand your question but if you're looking for a replacement fitting at the gauge end for a regular oil pressure line to fit into try this: Edelmann part number 169220, it's a 90 degree brass fitting 1/8 X 1/8. I bought this at Carquest in their brass fittings bins. If you have Carquest in your area this should be easy or have your local dealer cross that number. I removed my old fitting, screwed this one in its place and Bingo! the new line and ferrule fit perfect.
Best,
Greg

Summit carries an assembled braided line that will mate right up with the stock setup.
Click HERE , then select "Gauges and Accessories"
Good luck!

While I appreciate the help, I still have not recieved an answer to my particular question.
I checked the Summit link and I had already found my way to that section prior to this post, however none of them mention a stock gauge or seem to have the adapter that will hook up to a stock gauge.
I already have an "adapter" going into the back of my gauge, it is a 90" with a male/male ends on it.
This is the fitting that I have and was attached to the back of my gauge. I set the fitting on the paper wrong, so "flip" the ends/titles of the fitting...
So the "flare" style male end should be labled "gauge" and the normal "pipe" style male end should be labled "fitting" and that is where the ferrel and the black nylon line went.
So, you all are telling me that a female 1/8" NPT will go over the threads on the stock gauge and seal up? So then I can adapt to a -4an or -3an line then?
I guess I'll take a pic of the back of the gauge and with the fitting/line attached so you can all see what I'm talking about.
Also, the black nylon line goes to the rear/top of the block behind/below the intake manifold. From what I've seen (pics and catalogs) the BBC oil pressure line is supposed to be down by the oil filter... Correct or not?
On the top rear of the small block engine there is a small 1/8 pipe thread hole that is for oil pressure use. If you use a AN822-3 or AN822-3D, this is a 1/8 pipe thread 90 deg. with a -3 flared tube end this will take care of the engine side of things. As for the gage side I take it that the fitting screws into the gage. If this is right than the same fitting will work on the back of the instrument. If you need the numbers for a straight or 45 deg. fittings here they are. (the D at the end is for alu. fittings.
straight fitting AN816-3 or AN816-3D for alu.
45 deg. fitting AN823-3 or AN823-3D for alu.
90 deg. fitting AN822-3 or AN822-3D for alu.
As for hose I recomend Aeroquip 666-3 this is a Stainless steel braid with a teflon core which is uneffected by all fuels, oils alcohols, coolants or solvents. Try not to use regular brass or copper fittings as the ends do not have the same angle on the flare. The numbers I have given are for aircraft fittings and they will work without any problems and probley out last the car.
Hope this helps
