Hey guys,
I thought I'd post this over here, since this might see some more traffic. I bought these roller rockers last summer, sight unseen, and now I think I might have just got a raw deal. Are these rockers shot, or is there something I can do to recondition them?
I would take the lost, and buy a good set.
someone didnt know what they were doing.
Those are toast, Comp Cams makes theirs out
of aircraft quality steel which is stronger than
aluminum. I'm running their full rollers on my car.
That ain't the rockers' fault ... fault's in the valve train setup (or lack thereof). Also looks like you have installed extra tall retainers (to allow tall springs on a stock length valve) ... OR valve tips been squared too much & too short ... retainers ended up too high in relation to valve tip ... dunno? ... but that's what it looks like to me.
If the setup ain't right, it'll wreck a $400 set of rockers just as quick as a set of cheapo Proforms. No matter, you need new rockers and a proper setup.

Actually I never installed them. They came that way. I can't get a hold of the guy I bought them from. I just assumed that that was normal wear and tear when I got them. Everything still rolled, so I thought no harm no foul. Some people are worse then worthless.
Are any of the rockers any good? I guess I can try to sell the ones that are good and recoup my losses. I return a sadder and wiser man.
I will take a guess and say the pushrods may have been to short. I'd have to see it all assembled but that is my guess. I would replace the rockers.
I agree, the rockers may still be usable though but I wouldn't trust them. If the worn ones are not warped or cracked they should be ok. There is no way to realy know if they have fractured internaly.

Wrong retainers and/or wrong locks....put a fork in them rockers, they're done...
OK ... the seller sold rockers already trashed out.
Your pics aren't so great ... but ... it looks like you MIGHT have eight that are OK. Some rocker arms are sold in sets of eight/as individuals ... maybe not a total loss.
What brand are they (can you tell)? ... and how much $ do you have in them total?
It's not a crime to be a victim. Not your fault.

They are crane gold race rockers. I got them for $150. The price was so good, that I didn't think to ask for pictures. He said he was pulling them off a motor, I assumed if he was using them, then allright, I can use them.
What should I look for on the salvaged ones?

Those rockers are built to take on big 240+ pound closed pressure solid roller cams. With that thought in mind and the fact that it's worn on the non-pressure side of the roller tip. I would just clean them up and use them on any mild cammed street motor.
You did get screwed if you paid good money for them. But if they roller tips seem solid and your running sub 200# closed just go for it!

Are you sure they are Crane Gold ?? Alot of different Roller Rockers are sold in that gold color, and based on the condition of the rockers, I don't think you can trust the seller. I wouldn't try to salvage any of them, but that's me.
Years ago I purchased a set of Crane gold roller rockers for my '63. I shipped them off to Crane and they reconditioned them for much less than new ones. If they are Crane, it might be worth sending them in and asking them for their opinion. I found them to be honest and very helpfull... but that was as I said... years ago.
