Default Intermittant Power/Starting Problem

First--The car ran last night, no ptroblem starting, no weak battery, connection, ect...
It has sat while doing some resto's and I installed the rear diff....pumped the QJet, turned the key, it fired right up and didnt have to keep pedalling the accelerator (I just rebuilt and re-jetted the QJet)

This has happened before; and jiggling the wires at the "T" on the side of the alternator seemed to cure it.

Symptoms:
No starter engaging.
No Gen. light on dash.
All power to all accessories (lights, headlights, radio, interior lights, blower motor, ect...)
Test light at the alternator shows power with key ON, and power in the correct locations with key OFF.

When the Gen. light on the dash finally is on, the car will start (I know it isnt the light, but that just an indicator of when the starter will turn).

I have had all the wires at that "T" opened in the looms, all wires look great.
There is a wire with a heat sink right by the "T", (orange wire) but it travels forward to the front of the car.

I have traced all wires all the way to the starter, checked all connections and clips...I even made sure the wires going into the back of the fuse block was good and connected...

What am I missing?

Would he ignition switch atop the steering column prevent the Gen. light from coming on?...as I remember, that only prevents the power from getting to the starter solenoid to engage the starter.

Maybe a fuse on the fuse block that I didnt notice?

And the deal of jiggling the wires at that "T" has me baffled.

Any ideas or experiences?

Remember; it started up last night no problem-0 and ran fine...come this morning...nothing...but has 12v of power.

Thanks,
Jim

If you jiggle the wires and it starts then you have an intermittent connection.(duh) It may look good on the outside but on the inside of the wire there may be breaks of the copper conductor. I work on robots and have found this several times due to flexing. It may also happen due to age and corrosion.

If you can, try and isolate to one wire where the jiggle phenome is happening and the replace the entire lenght of that wire. Due to age a lot of wires start to breakdown and cause a lot of gremlins in the system.

You may have to break down (pun intended) and buy a new wiring harness for the engine bay. This can save you in the long run of looking to cure future problems with wiring under the hood.

I reccomend lectriclimited.com for wiring. Its all pretested and fits perfect. I have used them on my vette and it was great. I do not work for them just used the products.

Good luck I know its a PIA to find intermittents on wiring.

There lies the problem....it dont start now.

And the jiggling of wires consisted of 8 or 9 wires in the bundle...

What about the alarm wires?....would they prevent the generator light from coming on, and the car starting?
Factory alarm sytem.
