i replaced my original fan with a flex fan... only to later replace that with a set of dual Spal's.... if I remember correclty, the fan wasnt too expensive. If your not looking for originality, let me know, i will sell it to you for a good deal... just pay the shipping. Its even got a brand new CarQuest viscous clutch on it.
Don't know exactly but I have heard that a Lincoln (MK8?) fan is very good. Dual IROC Camaro fans 89-92 timeframe cool well. I looked at dual fans on a Cadillac DeVille and an Olds 98 also. I have Dual fans from a C4 on mine. The Spal fans are a bolt on, and are nice.
If you pushing closer to 500 hp, and or drive in southern climates, you need the DeWitts setup...no question....
but for us 400 hp guys, or anything less.....we can use an '87 vette fan in a stock-ish shroud setup, and get by.....I have a radiator from a '89 Camaro...same core size....single row...
These are from fwd gm's. The smaller one (12" dia) is counter clockwise roatation. The larger one (14.5" dia) is clockwise roatation. The large fan does fine on the road and moving but if I have to sit in traffic the big block requires the extra help from the 12" fan. I had a single 16" fan from a late 80's tbi camaro previously and it worked fine but would get hot sitting in traffic in the summer. aside from the cost of the aluminum to make the shroud the fans only cost me $40.

the lincoln mark VIII from late 80s through around 94 if i remember right is about the best electric fan if you can get your hands on one.
early models moved 4200 cfm and the later ones were around 3800.
also remember if you are removing the mechanical fan for electric thinking of gaining horsepower the electric fan makes the alternator work harder which also robs power and by comparison a properly working clutch fan is just as good if not better.
if i can find the article regarding the mark VIII fans and actual horsepower differences i will post it.

Only at idle. An electric fan is not usually on at anything over cruising speed. A clutch fan is always there. Always.
There have been some recent threads on Forum some members using the Camaro/TA LT1 or LS1 fan setup. These sell on Ebay for $50 - $150 plus shipping. Dont know the CFM rating of the Camaro/TA setup, but the 11 inch dual Spals that DeWitt sells are only rated at about 2700 CFM.
I know the OE used fans are cheap but the problem is they are very low CFM. For example, we replace 11" OE fans with 11" SPAL fans on a C5 and double the CFM. The diameter and phyical size of the OE fans can be very deceiving.
I recently pulled an electric fan out of a late 80's Camaro, and installed it in my '75. I used an aftermarket thermoswitch, as the Camaro's switch didn't have a separate terminal for the A/C (the Camaro's computer did that, using the same connection).
Take measurements and visit junkyard. Look for exotic big engine Mercedes cars!
For our 1968 race car we found a fan and shroud from a Mercedes that was a perfect fit, don't remember the model. It is the darnest thing and always solicits conversation but it was one of the best modifications that we ever made. We have had the car at the Route 66 in San bernadino if anyone has seen our car. I don't have a camera to post pictures but think outside the box. It sure worked for us. If you know our car, then you know it is a serious HP road racer that needs something extra to keep it cool.
