Default Timing Problem in an 82

Hi All,

Posting these questions for a friend who has an 82.

Just recently he was going down the highway and the car started to slow down, like your backing off of the gas. The check engine light came on and all he did was push the pedal down more and it cleared up. What gives?

The next question is that when we put a timing light on the car the mark is jumping all over the place, with the computer plugged in and not. And he has the total timing at 38 degrees. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the cat could be plugged, and maybe his ignition module is out. Check the cat first though.
