You did great and the time you get to spend working on the car with your son is PRICELESS!!!! My son and I redid our 80 and even thou he has turned thirteen he and I are still best friends.
He bought an 84 and we are starting on that. Think he wanted another reason to hang out in the shop. That's fine by me.

Nice find...looks like its gonna need a lot of work and $$. The work is the fun part. Look around for deals on the parts. Check out corvettes at carlisle Aug 25-27th in PA. http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/schedule/index.asp
If you know what you need and are a bit of a talker you can get great deals at these swap meets (I assume you are since you got the car for so cheap). I go every year.
Also your first main concern is RUST!! It looks like your in upper NY state not sure where you got the car from but northern states have moisture issues that cause rust. Bang the crap out of your frame with a hammer starting at the front and work your way up to the rear and see if any large rust flakes fall to the ground. This will give you a better idea of where you should start to look to replace/repair the frame. Usual problem spots are the door sills, windshield birdcage (look near the vin # and along the windshield supports first) and the #3 body mount(right past the doors/in front of the rear tire). Looks like your wheels are barely on there too so I would inspect the 8 body mounts as a base repair and work your way away from that.
All in all, nice find. Good luck and enjoy.
Thanks for all the "attaboys"...it's a 79..it is coming out of N.H....yes, the frame has rust (and one hole I am aware of), but Scott and my plan is to do a body off, complete restore for road use....but the best part of the plan is doing it together (and even maybe the younger son if he can pull himself away from my new grandson), weither it's pricey or not...I figure starting at under 2 grand just to aquire, we're gonna do ok....
Anybody else???
I will post pics as we go...I have the previous owners pics that I will post tomorrow...
Nice purchase. I would say you did fine. There is a lot of work ahead of you. I think the purchase price was great. If the car turns out to be too much work, you could part the car out and easily double or maybe even triple your money.

One of these days I may go down that road myself. Have fun with the project and make sure to post pics of all the work while in progress.
