Looking to put 69 style side pipes on my body off restored 75 small block painting the covers body color has any one used this type header if so can you give me a stock number or will the sbc ceramics that I see on ebay work.
Things to note if you're going to use block huggers are the spark plugs and boots and the overall fit. The block huggers tend to be REALLY close to the spark plugs so you may want to opt for Accel short spark plugs. I think the part number is 0256S or something like that. Any auto parts store can get em just look for the accel spark plugs for a chevy v8 and look for the part number with the S on the end. Also get nice high temp wires. I went to long tubes because of these issues.
For sidepipes, if you've got the extra cash, just go with headers made for sidepipes, or use manifolds.
I think block huggers are great for sidepipes if you can't find a custom setup or don't want to run with the stock manifolds. There is usually a lot more room for the plugs because the block huggers are really mini-headers and the tubes are routed away from the heads a little more than with manifolds. Here's what mine look like. I had some custom pipes fitted from the huggers to the sidepipes...

Z-man's headers are a bit different than most block huggers that I've seen. Most go straight down like right away and not just out and together like that.
Don't bother with the e-bay block huggers, I'll tell you from experience those things aren't worth your time. Any headers from summit seem to be really good quality.
I Agree with Kalway, if you're using the 2" 69 sideexhaust mufflers either go the Hedman 68280 or OEM manifolds. If you use the OEM it's a bolt on and should be able to use the OEM brackets for alternator, etc. If you go the header route there is some fab/welding to do and different brackets will probablt be required. Don't use the Hedman alt. bracket , go with an aluminum billet from Summit.
Here is pic of the Hedman 68280 after I testfitted/tweaked and has them Sterling Jet-Hot coated.
Z-man, did you have any clearence problems with the steering box when you put the engine in the car?
As a matter of fact, I did (they were the 1-7/8 inchers). But they took care of it and modified the driver's side for me. I had to wait, but the end results are worth it! They are top notch in every respect...
