If this is what you would want to do, do it. I would love to be able to convert a rubber bumper vette into a chrome bumper vette. It can be done. I cannot afford to buy a chrome bumper car (69 being my first choice, 70-72 second) With prices of chrome bumper cars (especially the 69) ranging from 30-60K (in some cases). Buying a rubber bumper car and modifying it will NOT be as expensive as spending 30-60K on a car that is 40 years old. And you would not have to be worried about making a high car payment on a 40 year old car (if you have to get a loan) I dont believe in spending that much money on a old car just because it is a chrome bumper car.
Would you be willing to take out a loan for that much for an 40 year old car??? I know I wouldnt. As far as it being frowned upon by the corvette community.....who cares? It is YOUR car.
If you can get past the "I wan't it now" mentatality (which is hard for me to do) Take your time with this project and forget about what others have to say about your car, they dont drive it. Go for it and enjoy.

I like ALL C'3 for what they are. With that being said, about 10 yrs ago, way before I had my Vette I saw one that was done in this way.I was right behind it in traffic and I'm not sure but I think he took a chrome bumber car and put a 78 up roof on it.Very well done I might add and it looked good!!!My wife was with me and I explained to her what it was we were looking at.Car was red on red and wasn't a bubba job by any means. Now taking a rubber car and changing it over is another story.Like a previous post said.Start with a 73 but they ain't cheap either.

Jims79

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. I guess one could buy a used birdcage (people are always doing that when theirs is too far gone) and use its vin and title.
