if a dist was 180 out, would it still be possible for it to run? Im sure it would be rough, but would it even crank?

RUN? Heck no. Fire? yea - enough to backfire out the exhaust and usually the carb too. If there's enough fuel charge in her, it can bust the start housing too.

well got out and drove it and now it needs some timing adjustments. Any help on input on the timimg would be great it has 12 inital and 36 with advance hooked up. i have an aggressive cam it is the edelbrock performer rpm and i have an auto. When the car is in park the idle is at 1200 and in drive the car will die if you dont give it some gas or put it in neutral and the idel is at aobut 550 600 so any help with the timing is appriciated. thanks again

What stall speed converter do you have? Set timing with vacuum advance removed. Set timing at 38 degrees at 2800rpm then plug the vaccum advance up. Set your idle at 900 in park .This should let you idle at 700 in drive. If you dont have a stall converter you might have a problem getting it to idle . If you need help I live in Athens. I will be at the drag strip in Huntsville on Sat. Look for the car hauler made from a retired U-haul van Dwight

It is supposed to have a 3000 stall but when i foot break the car starts to move at about 2500-2700 rpm. Also can anyone recommend a spring combo out of the mr. gasket kit right now i have the silver springs in.

What ever sprins that make the timing at 38 degrees at 2800 rpm. You may have to use a combo of two colors . That about right on the converter for a 3000 stall . Does it idle now with the car in drive ?

barley because i dont have the timing set up just right but even with the old dist at lights i would have to put it in neutral because it would try to stall. Right now it idles at about 550- 500 maybe in gear. I think once i get the timing right it will be alot better.

The other thing that sometimes happen, and its easy to do in a crowded area, is to accidentally switch #5 and #7. The engine will start and run but backfire. They are right next to each-other physically, and also in the firing order.
