Default carb leaking

Picked up a Holley 4160 600 cfm carb at a swap meet, and after a rebuild it would leak into the intake after a drive. I would find gas all over the floor of the intake and soaked gaskets, not to mention what all this was doing to my oil. Thinking there was something wrong with the carb itself(not the rebuild kit, I tried several), I bought a new carb, same type. And same problem! I've checked gasket surfaces, adjusting the floats, needles, o-rings, everything seems to be in order. I'm getting rid of these carbs when my 383 goes in, but I would like to know what's causing this problem first! Anyone got any suggestions?

Holley's leak internally if the bowl screws aren't tight enough.

Is there a torque spec? I tightened them with a wide-blade screwdriver, they're certainly not loose. This is a really wierd problem. I've never seen this from a Holley before, then two in a row!

Any place else they might leak???

Yes, there is a torque spec.

Check your vac at idle, and compare it to the power valve #.

Check float levels/adjustment.

Also check your power valve and valve gasket. This could also be the fuel percolating in the bowls on shut down. You might try a phenolic insulator and a heat shield. Aluminum intakes transfer a lot of heat right to the carb.

Had a similar problem like this once, ended up being the wrong base gasket and a vaccum port was closed off between the main body and the base / throttle plate. Simple oversight but major PITA
