Default water loss problem

hey guys need some help, i just replaced my heater hoses and upper rad. hose. filled up the rad. and started the engine to check for leaks. holly cow!!! the water was pouring out of the firewall under the heater hoses but not from the heater hoses. it looks like it was coming from a hole up under the firwall near the heater core inside. it was not leaking inside the car, but it drained the rad. in minutes. bad heater core or something else. i am a new owner of a vette and don't know much about vettes. any help would be nice.

p.s. i had planed to take it to a corvette show in my home town but not now

Bad heater core sounds like, you can bypass the heater core, wont win any prises, but at least you can drive it

Did you have the car running before you changed the hoses? It does sound like a bad heater core. I'd say bypass it for now... If you plan on driving it in the cold, and want heat, then you can fix it.

Seems funny to me that the thing didn't do it before the hose change, I assume it was running before the change, but maybe this was the first start since you've owned the car?
I'd re-check all the connections and if they are correct and tight and are the right diameter hose, then you should probably go with the above suggestion...if he was gonna enter it in a car show, one would think it was running...

Problem is that you changed the heater hoses. They are attached to the core. Very fragile BTW especially when old. So the nipple is cracked away from the core. Unfortunately it will require replacing the heater core.

+Yep.

How did you remove the old hoses from the core itself? It's tough, but the way to do it is to slice them along the length of the nipple and open the hose up like a sandwich. It's a PITA to do but then, so is the heater core.

I agree. It sounds like the heater core was damaged when you either removed the heater hose from it or when you put the new one on. They are very fragile. No harm done by bypassing it.
