Default Fixing a truflex bumper...

Can it be done? If so... how? Can cracks/breaks be fixed using regular fiberglass.... much as you'd do with a regular fiberglass bumper?

Thanks for any and all advice.

I replaced the front bumper on my 82 because I thought it was too far gone to repair. When I got my car back from John at Corvette Specialist he told me that it might have been quicker and easier to fix the original one. I still have that old bumper and you are welcome to it if you want to practice before you do yours.

I had to cut my tru flex in half and widen it 3/4 of an inch to get it to fit to my 75. The manufacturer, Toledo Fiberglass said to just use regular fiberglass resin and cloth. You lose the truflex properties in the area that has regular resin but the repairs bond fine. Make sure you remove the factory paint from all surfaces prior to doing the repairs.

Bill.... thanks for the offer. Don't think I'll need it but much appreciated.

Thanks for all the advice..... verifies what another friend said as well. Looks like I've got a bit more fiberglass work to do.

Just an idea that came to me, instead of using polyester resin, try using epoxy resin, its much more flexible. Thats whats recomended in building ceder canoes, it absorbs shock much better.

Thx 28buick, i've been waiting to read this as i have a Toledo rear bumber that hardly lines up anywhere with the rear body. And i will need to do some filling to match these parts up before painting.

Michel B, can u mix the 2 resins? Well they bond? All i know is that one type has a faster cure time and one resin is much more sensitive to the amount of hardner mixed into it than the other resin.

Toledo told me to use polyester base resin with their bumpers. I never asked about epoxy base.
