The trans and crank should not share any oil at all. They should be seperate units. 2 strokes have the fuel/oil mix go through the crankcase and this is where the bearings get their lube from.
Then how did the engine running in neutral cause the gear oil to foam up? I thought that the premix just lubricated the reed valves. Also if the premix was all that lubricates the engine, how does it get past the piston ring to lubricate the crank bearings?
The oil is only for the gearbox/clutch and if it has moisture in it, replace it. very easy to do. Maybe even flush it once to clean it. When the gearbox is in neutral the input shaft is spinning and foaming the oil. Even if you had the clutch in it would probably still spin due to friction.
2 strokes are different animals to 4 strokes. the premix or oil injection in the fuel lubes the crank, rod ends and rings, then gets burnt with the fuel.
The intake stroke sucks the fuel/oil/air mix into the crankcase as the piston goes up. As it comes down it compresses and is forced into another port which guides it up into the combustion chamber where it is ignited and drives the piston down. There is a lot of gas/fluid mechanics to make this work as ports for exhaust and intake are open at the same time.
Now change the oil in the dirt bike and get back to working on the Vette

Not being smart here but go back and look at how a 2 stroke works. Yes they do get lubrication to the crank bearings. The fuel mix is actually pulled through the crankcase. The gears are still turning in nuetral so the gear case has some moving parts when it is in nuetral. That is the beauty of a 2 stroke. I have worked on many a 2 stroke motors from motor cycles to outboards to lawn equipment. This is how they all work.
