Here is mine from VBP. Really stiffens the front end.
What I have against the VBP spreader bar is the adjustment flats. Look at where it is?? IN the center of the bar and in some cases impossible to get at.
I have brought this up before that the 2 skinny flats need improvement.

It has been my experience if you need to put a wrench on this you are putting to much pressure on it. I can move the shock towers out and change the front end alignment by just turning the bar with my hands. And I am not that strong.
I used a oil filter wrench (the kind that use a rubber strap) to put a load on the bar....the only thing is now I am kinda afraid I put too much pre-load on it. How much is too much, and how do I know if I have surpassed that limit.
I definetly want to install one. But looking at the pics, my concern is the fit with the stock L82 fan shroud. Anyone install with that set up. Im still running the stock mechanical/electrical fan set up. Thanks in advance for any responses.
I run a spreader bar with my 1972 LT-1 and stock shround/fan/pulley set-up. I think it works well but, my body started stress cracking in new places after I installed it.
Seems strange, wonder if you tightened it too much?? and that is a interesting point, some time ago I got a VBP spreader bar from Patnitrovette, and have never installed it....yet,...i'ts on the agenda but I"m just too dam busy with other crap to get it done, maybe this summer...
SO, how to adjust it while sitting in the garage???

Just looking at the couple of real nice pictures, you'll notice that the VB&P bars are located opposite the front upper "A" arm stud. My understanding is that if you buy the UNWELDED kit, the mounting plates are drilled and bolt to the two "A" arm studs, then you locate and mark the actual spreader bar mounting "ears" further back (under the stock waterpump pulley between the belt shive (groove) and the fan clutch, but closer to the belt than the fan. Mine's a BB, so it looks like the one in the pictures, but I also made mine out of chrome moly with my own brackets and ends. Hope this clarifies it.
I also have a pre-load that is pushing the towers outward or away from eachother, but would like someone to quantify how much I am supposed to go. Also, I bought the kit that had the tabs come unwelded because I originally used it with my mech. fan, it sits just a hair in front of my water pump pulley.
I got the fan from Dewitts. It is a single 16 inch fan with a Spal controller. It keeps it it cool enough. Hopefully it will be good enough for my new motor also.

I installed mine with just a touch of preload on the spreader bar. You don't want to crank on the spreader bar, this will change the camber of front end.
