Ebay purchase dispute
I purchased some interior parts on Ebay that the seller described as "MINT". He offers to refund me $50 for the price of a few parts I purchased that weren't in the auction. I paid $185 and he sent me a box of junk. (This stuff is for my 1970 Monte Carlo). I paid with Paypal. The items in the picture didn't show the damage of the parts I got. He is telling me to file a claim with UPS, but the stuff in the box was all dirty and looked like it had been sitting in a pile of other trash. There was even a piece of busted steering wheel that looked like it had been shoveled into the box with the rest of the junk. What is my recourse?

Use e-bay help button, type in "item not as discribed". File a dispute under not as discribed.
E-bay rules read.
Booth buyer & seller expected to honor contract, the seller my not...
(1) Fail to deliver an item where payment accepted.
(2) Significantly misrepresent an item by not meeting the terms of the item(s) discription outlined in the listing.
You'll win this dispute hands down, now go file the dispute.

I've never ever won a dispute with PayPal, ever...as much as I buy on eBay it is a gamble and feedback and photos are so so so important. I just bought a side marker light that was listed as great shape and two of the three back posts were busted...my whole reason to buy one was because my current one has two posts broken off. The photo didn't show the broken posts...go figure.
I could go through all the trouble and complain but I'm held hostage to the feedback and retaliation feedback. Plus the shipping is never recouped so you lose that sending it back. All in all I know I've come out ahead on eBay...it's just like Vegas but the odds are a little better.

File a claim with ebay's square deal, pay pal, if credit card was used get them involved too. And last but definitely not the least (and my favorite big stick) contact the Internet Fraud Complaint Center of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (IFCCFBI). Also, if you keep after ebay, they have an insurance policy in place to protect everyone, the company they use is called Auction Insurance. Ebay has a lot at stake, so they are insured for losses and claims. Hang in there and Good Luck!
I filed a complaint against a seller on Ebay that never shipped the item. He claimed it shipped and "got lost in the mail".
I paid with Paypal and filed an official complaint with them and Ebay. Ebay removed his selling privileges and Paypal investigated him AND sided with me. BUT, since he had no money in his Paypal account, Paypal said they could NOT refund my money until he had money in his account. WTF???
Good luck!

It's all in the wording and pics. I bought a helmet with an autograph last year...the picture showed an authentic Riddell with autograph but I got an "authentic" autograph on a replica helmet....big difference. eBay let it stand and made the guy change the wording in the listing. That means listing was misleading....didn't get squat but a hard learned lesson.
About 97% of my eBay experiences have been positive...a few characters out there that want to mislead you. In fairness, I have bought and sold about 800 items so problems are going to happen.
PayPal even put an investigation on deferment after I proved by confirmation that an item (core part) had been returned. When asked they said there wasn't enough information provided to move forward???? That was the one that set me off. A phone call later to a supervisor reopened the investigation when I asked what would suffice as proof if the USPS isn't sufficient. I got my money on that one but given the time and effort it was no victory.

I bought two Goodyear GSC tires from a guy on ebay and payed with Paypal. The tires showed up, looked like brand new, but turned out to have a pin-hole sized leak in each sidewall (discovered by me the day after mounting them when both tires went flat). Totally and utterly useless tires! I told Ebay and Paypal. They both basically said that two tires matching the seller's description were delivered so I was SOL. Even though they were useless to use as tires on a vehicle, Ebay makes no claims that the items are "suitable to the buyer's useage". I guess if I had wanted some Goodyear tire swings with "like new" treads I would have gotten exactly what I wanted.
Paypal protections are a joke. I think the only way to protect yourself is by paying with a credit card. Your card company can be a lot more useful than Paypal and they give you three months to settle your claim -usually - instead of the 30 days Paypal offers.

Went through the mediator, what a joke.
The mediator didn't help a bit. In the end I ended up selling the wheels at 1/2 of what I paid for them and took a $400 loss.
I probably spent about 40-60 hours trying to resolve the situation.
I will not buy used tires or wheels for Evil-bay ever again. What a lesson.
I bought a gage cluster for an S10 on ebay ... advertized & pictured as in good cond ... as soon as I opened box I could see it was junk as the printed ciruit ribbon was torn & several mounting bosses broken. After much wriggling, excuses & stalling by seller, I shipped it back to the POS. I had paid via Paypal using a major credit card ... I ALWAYS do and ALWAYS will.
POS Seller tried to extort me via bad feedback ... I didn't budge ... I called a spade a spade ... he called me a cheat too ... OH well. He's got lotsa feedback but he doesn't leave any until you leave him a good one first ... that way his score is falsely high.
However ... In the midst of the feedback scuffle, I complained to and filled out ALL those dang forms on ebay, paypal, squaretrade. Never got anything but form emails saying it was under investigation. That was 3 years ago ... still nothing. Those folks are are waste of time.
I quickly complained to my credit card provider ... CCP sent a form I filled out and submitted ... I was credited the amount of purchase but no return shipping. I never got any indication the POS seller was ever disciplined or debited by anyone.
ALWAYS pay via credit card ... IMHO, it's the only REAL protection you may have.
BTW ... I wish to warn each of you of the above ebay POS ... I don't have a problem calling a spade a spade again either ... he is:
