I am just curious if anyone has gone down to a single headlight relay rather than the two. I think the older C-3's used a single relay didn't they? It seems like it would be easy to T- the lines and keep the other for a backup. What do you guys think?
what year car? I was under the impression that the older cars didnt even use a relay, the headlight switch pushes the full load. Lots of current going thru that switch...
talk to Norval. he modified his so the switch controls a relay setup, not sure if he used 1 or 2. He's got a much higher voltage at the lights now, which will make your headlights brighter, and make the switch last forever.
I did that (used one relay) a few years ago while troubleshooting my bad actuators. I didn't put both relays back in use after fixing the actuators for about a year (I forgot about it) and everything worked just fine. I only hooked it all back up correctly because both relays are there and I don’t like to be ‘bubba’ if I can help it.
68 uses a single relay for the lights. Works fine. I think they installed the second relay so that if one failed, you still had at least one light to get you home. Having two may also allow the lights to rise faster.
My car is an 80, i forgot to put that. Anyways- i think ill go down to one and keep the other for a backup. I have already eliminated the vac tank from the system- it leaked anyway. I just figure, there's enough things that can cause problems in the vac system, might as well eliminate as much as i can.
