Default zz4 problems

I am in the process of installing a ZZ4 crate motor into a 77 vet. The motor comes with an accessory drive package instead of the old V belt pulleys and a high rise intake. I was told the height would be a problem with the standard hood and the newer drive package would hit the frame. Does anyone know if this is true.

Thanks for the help

Is it the serpintine kit, all one belt??

If so, it will fit perfect.

Well I have a '77 also, and have a newer crate 350, not the zz4, but same block I think. On it I have vortec heads, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, .25'' heat gasket, Edelbrock 1406 600cfm carb, and and Edelbrock 14'' x 3'' airfilter w/ .75'' dropbase. My setup clears my hood with 1/8'' clearance.

I have a '78 that I installed a Ramjet 350 and the GM serpentine belt system....long story...but I just removed the serpentine belt kit and getting ready to ship it back to the dealer. (ya wanna buy one cheap? lol) My problem was the routing of the upper radiator hose to the radiator. I couldn't ever get a nice run without a dip (that would trap air). Then removing the air became a problem for me. Now....the are differences...the Ramjet has a different intake and the throttle body would interfere with the hose routing (along with my air cleaner). Overall...Loved it! Just couldn't get it to work for me. I went to a system manufactured by Concept One....even more $$$$$.

I have a ZZ4 crate motor for my '82 Vette.
The stock ZZ4 aluminum intake manifold WILL NOT clear the hood. I also went with the Edelbrock Permastar RPM manifold and a 3/4 dropbase air cleaner with a 14" X 3" K&N filter.

When I installed my serp system i used a hose that has part of it above the rad level, goes up over the serp belt then back down to the rad neck, after a while the air that is in the elbow above the rad mixes with the water that it shooting out of the water neck and got purged out the rad cap through venting, no air in the elbow now

Your 77 small block hood does accomodate for a higher intake than earlier c3's but its still not the hood for highrise manifold installs. I'd bet you will at least need a .75 dropbase canister and a skinny air cleaner.

Holley makes a funny looking aircleaner, bone shaped for highrise and hood clearance, Dont know anyone who opted for it? very pricey too.

Many go with the L88 hood and stop worrying about engine hood clearance issues. Good luck..

I put a ZZ4/HOLLEY in my '75 coupe(stock L82 hood) and the carb height was not a problem.
I located a drop base air cleaner from MOROSO that fit just fine.

Get a drop base Moroso air cleaner and a Holley 4 barrel and it should fit fine. I even run a 1/2" four-hole spacer ontop of the ZZ4 manifold and it BARELY fits.
