Default Edelbrock Top End kits

any one use the edelbrock top end kits. I have been looking at the rpm since i already have the rpm cam. I was reading edelbrocks web site and they say that the rpm top end kit is just like the rpm creat motor. The description say acceptable low end torque. here is the graph for the rpm motor. what do you all think about this for a street car good or bad. I fiqured since the rpm cam is installed i might as well see whats avaible befor i swapp it with a xe262 and vortec head and intake.

Now in chevy high performance they did a motor called dangermouse and test 15 uses the comp cam xe262 with vortec heads and rpm airgap vortec the carb would be a 670 street avenger. Here is their dyno on that motorRPM TQ HP
2600 379 188
2800 384 204
3000 404 231
3200 427 260
3400 433 280
3600 435 298
3800 437 316
4000 432 329
4200 433 347
4400 434 364
4600 439 385
4800 433 396
5000 423 402
5200 411 407
5400 401 413
5600 389 415
5800 365 403

Max 440 416
Avg 417 333

Sorry to post all of these questions. Im just confused on what direction to take to get this car where i want it. The car is a 75 auto th400 with the stock gears for an L48. I want to drive the car alot but it will not be driven every day, but will be drivin a good amount. I need low end torque. I dont care about racing I just want a car that will smoke the tires from redlight to redlight, and have some pep to it. Again sorry for being long winded and asking dumb questions.

I have a 327 built with all the RPM stuff in my 65. i have a 5 speed and 3:90 rear. acceptable low end is a relitive thing. i pretty much dont have much under 3500 RPM. starts coming on hard by 5000 RPM and is still pulling well when i shift at 6000 RPM. i will say i have started gathering the parts for a 400 CI SB engine to replace the 327. then again my background is motorcycles and my idea of acceptable acceleration might be different then yours

I agree with the car not having much under 3500. It pulls hard from 4000 to 6000. My current setup is the crap 882 smog heads perfomer manifold 600 cfm holly carb and the rpm cam.

Hello,
Can you really get all of that HP from a top end kit?

The stock 1975 L48 engine had 165 hp at 3800rpm. Isnt the top end kit reworked heads, intake manifold, cam and maybe a carb. Will that take it from 165 to 410, or a 245 hp increase. I can see 250 - 300 maybe, but 410 is quite a jump in performance. I am only questioning this, not being critical of it.

considering the kit uses 64cc heads which will up the compression and the rpm cam and intake i suppose so because the heads should up the compression from 8.5:1, but i dont know thats why im asking what would be better for a street motor with low end torque.

I'm also interested in more info regarding the top-end kits. For boneheads like me who don't know how to match all the parts and peices they have appeal.
However I'm at least a year away from going this route.

well my guess is that the 410 HP is made with perfectly assembled engine and a 14 inch velocity stack into open headers. put the same numbers into a desk top dyno for my 327 using my carb and small tube headers with mufflers and it predicts i make 369HP peak. something i find much more belivable.

a 75 corvette hp was measured at the rear wheels, There 410 is pushed at the fly wheel... Theres alot of hp diff right there consider that. Im not good with fly to rear, but say 75 at the fly is 185 and thres at rear is 390. You just cut that into a big difference. Now my heads are stock and cam stock look at the tech specs. In my 78 i have i belive 79cc heads, Push that down to a 64cc, and a cam from 320" lift to a high 400" lift. I read many articles Carcraft and Hot rod did engines with gains of exess of 200hp just with top end. They did a pontiac 400 small block gained i belive it was 300hp From top end.

There was a post here that linked a CHevy performance article where they had a 350, 210hp 320tq and went to 420hp and 420tq.(im guessing i havnt read it in a while but around there can someone find that post?)
I would say Someone that istn ina magazine getting the parts for free would have to test it, im scepticle as well, but it does seem likly.

I'm having the Edelbrock top end kit from Summit installed in about two weeks. I am just finishing up the suspension/brakes/steering. I'll let you know how it turns out.
