Default How to convert to fuel injection

I have the zz502/502 in my 78 Vette and am now seriously considering Fuel injection. There is a kit I can buy to convert my motor to the ramjet, but it's way too expensive.

Does anyone have experience taking a carb'd motor and converting it to a fuel injected motor, what is involved and how much $ am I looking at?

The zz502 is the same motor as the ramjet 502 so the ramjet injection was designed for the motor. Dont need to change anything on the engine. Far as price thats about what they are all running unless you get a kit to bolt on the 4 barrel intake. Edelbrok makes a kit that is similar to the Ramjet, forgot who it was that posted it but its in the thread i started called 77 502 Ramjet. He posted some pics of it there. The main thing that needs to be changed is the fuel system. I pulled everything out of my car and working on replacing it. Also with the ramjet comes the problem of he hood.

Holley makes a MPFI kit for the BB that fits under a L88 hood after some massaging. Details on my webpage (link in sig).

If your a DIY type guy, and want to save a bunch of money, check out:

http://www.megasquirt.info/

So far I've heard pretty good things about Megasquirt. its an open source fuel injection system thats completely DIY. If you have some electronics skills, you can probably get away with a full system for about $500-$600. Only downside is that its not capable of sequential injection... only batch firing. I've been doing quite a bit of reading on the subject, and from what I've read, there is not that much more of an advantage from running sequential injection over a batch firing system. I am very close to doing this kind of setup on my car. If you dont like the idea of soldering it up yourself, there are fully assembled units available.

its worth a look.

Check out www.diy-efi.org/gmecm, too. You'll still have to get the BB manifold, which will probably have to be new (unless you find someone carbing a zz502), and that could get a bit pricey. TBI is the other option, it's not quite as efficient or powerful as port injection, but easy to set up.

The megasquirt system looks kinda interesting. Im a DYI kinda person with electonic skills so that right up my alley. Even though i have a ramjet i may look into that in the future for my small block S10.
