I have that problem from high idle so I turn off the engine and leave the AC on that stops the engine just fine. I don't see a vacuum advance on your engine, I wonder what distributor you have

His problem is that the car keeps RUNNING after the key is turned off. The car is still running so timing could play a role. Dragging the clutch or shutting down in drive will allow you to shut the car off but does nothing to correct the underlying problem.

Yup. But it's not RUNNING with the ignition on. It is dieseling - so there is no spark, therefor no ignition, etc. I know what you mean, tho. Improper timing could cause fast idle and other woes which could result in some "run-on" after the key is off. I was just suggesting that he use a couple techniques to resolve the issue until he gets to the underlying problem

Could be carbon buildup, hotspot, hot plug, super lean condition, etc. - lots of things could be igniting that fuel after the regular spark is turned off. At least a fuel injected car won't do that once the key is off and the fuel used up at the injector.

Wow, how do you decide which one to drive? DON'T fix the oil leaks!!!! Our B recently got "retired" due to the amount of rot underneath & I'm convinced that if I hadn't fixed the oil leaks then it wouldn't have rotted out so much. Why, with a climate like ours, did they insist on making cars so prone to rust?

Danish: If the archives & search function work OK, try searching for run-on as there was a good post on it a while back.
