Any tips on proper fuel and air mixture adjustment on these carbs will be greatly appreciated.

BEST damn carb ever invented, and don't let anyone ever try convince you otherwise.....they are RONG.....

having said that, the AFB is smaller sized for the earlier engines that didn't either turn the RPMs or the CU inches....so it's somewhat limited in top HP applications for later, larger engines....they will push 650 cfm though, which isn't so shabby though for street use....you wanna race car, use two of them, very common on some early vettes, but I think they were the predecessor...something called a WCFB....another story...

you need the 'strip kit' for tuning that carb....years ago they ran about 60 bux or less, included jets, rods, etc.....

I still have a later cousin of the AFB, an AVS....not so bad a carb....

been a while...

but in fact no other carb does as well in fuel economy, reliability, tunability, leaking, etc....

and that last one, leaking, is another thread in and of itself....

that's why it got ditched for the q-jet, right? I think it was hot rod magazine that stated that the q-jet is the next best thing to EFI. Reliability? Q-jets are known for set it and forget it.

The carter was designed in the 50's and has two major benefits, parts availability and ease of tuning.

As for adjusting them, just tune based on your engine's needs with one of the many kits out there. Grab a manual from like Autozone and it'll walk ya through it.
