Default hello from new guy

Greetings, all! I guess I'm the new guy in more ways than one; first, I just joined Corvetteforum (obviously). Second, I just brought home my first-ever Corvette, a '79 L48. As such, I apologize in advance for all the dumb questions I'm going to end up posting at one point or another; I'm still learning about Corvettes in general and the specific car I bought. It needs a little work here and there and I've got some fairly big plans for it. More on that later. . .

Got a 79 L88 myself back in October. I have since rebuilt the rear suspension and carb and I'm currently working on the front suspension and the brakes. I don't know what I'd do without this forum.

Check back often even if you don't have questions. Theres a lot of info available here.

Congrats!

Chilli, Welcome!
I too am new to the forum and vette ownership. I have been a Corvette fan for years but just recently purchased my 73 T-Top and joined the forum. I have already gained a wealth of information just browsing archives. First big project Front Brakes) starts this weekend. The information (and opinions) on this forum are endless and priceless. Enjoy!

Congrats!

Three cheers to the '79ers! I got my first ever last August, L82. You will learn more about Corvettes in the next 6 months than you ever imagined! As a general rule, search first and then ask if you don't find what you need..."been there, done that" is the name of the game on the forum

Congrats and best of luck,
Steve

Welcome to the forum from a fellow 79 L48 owner although it's perked up a little from stock. This is the place to be for questions and answers. The members here are all gentleman, knowledgeable and courteous and genuinely interested in others problems. There is no such thing as a dumb question. Share your questions before you buy or modify as its more than likely that someone here had the same issue at one time,

Default New guy's question competition

Hey Chili. New here to the group and ownership of a 79 L48. I have awards for asking question after question, want to compete?

Seriously I welcome your questions - I bet I learn from them.

Welcome! It was about 3 months ago that I was a new guy around here. Everyone has been great. The only suggestion I would give is do a thorough search of the archives before you post your question. I have jumped the gun on this a few times and posted questions that have been answered many times over. That seems to be just about the only thing that annoys people.

With the help of the guys around here, I have taken a vette that barely ran and did so very eradically, leaving me stranded many times to a reliable, smooth daily driver. You will want to drive it off a cliff many times, but just keep at it!

Welcome. Remember, C3 drivers WAVE!!! Cruise and enjoy. Advice for a newbie if you haven't already considered these things:

order a reproduction onwer's manual. If your car came with the original (lucky you), store it out of the car and keep the repro in the storage area. Read through the onwer's manual and familiarize yourself with your Corvette.

order the assembly instruction manual (AIM) for '79. AIMs provide a wealth of information concerning how the car was assembled at St. Louis and are invaluable for restoration and general knowledge.

consider the purchase of one of the better tune up manuals since there are a lot of things you can do yourself on your '79.

DO NOT toy with the idea of doing a frame off restoration until you've driven the car for a while and sorted out what she may, or may not, need.

check out six or seven of the major Corvette aftermarket providers and pick three or four you like. I can recommend Eckler's, ZIP Products, and Corvette Central, but there are others out there.

join a Corvette club.
