I have been thinking about purchasing a 69 or 70 big block coupe/auto. Any advantages/disadvantages of a 69 vs a 70? Any issues I need to be aware of in considering a big block vs a small block?
Congrats you are about to make a big decission. First off I would consider what I wanted to pay, BB versus a SB, BB is gonna cost you more. How are you gonna drive it ? The BB is definately going to cost you more to operate in fuel. If you are looking for performance the BB will definately give the bang for the buck although the SB cars run well. The SB will handle better but the BB gives that seat in the pants feel and not to mention the grin on your face when you get out is gonna be hard to wipe off. I own and drive a 68 427 / 435 coupe 4 speed with 4.10 gears a blast to drive around town but sux on the highway, but I wouldn't own anything else but a BB that's my personal taste. Have fun and enjoy rhe looking that's the fun part. That's my 2-cents worth.
71's have lower compression and hence you can run on pump gas Of course that also means a little less horsepower. 69's have the nice gills whereas my 71 has a cheese grater
Its best just to buy a nice one. I wanted a 69, but ended up with a nice 71. And that's good as I don't worry about running pump gas.
