c3 stock shifters are about21/2" tall. all of the aftermarket's are 9". even if i beat the floor under the console to death there is no way to not have this giant thing sticking out of the console. sooooo... andy ideas and or pics of sucessful implantations?
I don't know - I find the height of the shifter on my manual just fine - you must have awfully long arms if you want to shorten the height of the shifter
I adapted a short Hurst shifter handle intended for (I believe) a late model mustang in my car. It was too short though, I had to make an adapter piece to raise it up about an inch. I don't think I have any pictures of it in my car though. The actual shifter mechanism is Hurst also, but I didn't like the truck-length stick they give you with it.
If you are using the stock shifter and just want a shorter handle, your'e kind of screwed. I would think the only way would be to cut a section out of it and weld it back together. It should be hidden by the boot.
Personally, I never like the short shifters. I drove a 300GT once that had a shifter where you just had to move your wrist. Total throw must have only been 1". I found it annoying at best. I just like to row through the gears with my gargantuant shifter handle, I guess.
I have a Hurst Super Comp shifter and purchased a stock style lever. They are available from various Corvette supply houses. You end up with a stock height shifter when using one of these.
You can buy an aftermaket lever to fit a hurst that looks like a Vette shifter. Comes in about the correct height.
I welded a Vette shifter to a bracket to bolt onto the Tremec I have. looks stock, shifts smooth with a little less travel.
