Default L88 hood

Not really sure if I like the looks of the L88 hood over the BB hood or not and I know I don't want to have to try and find a place to match the paint for me BUT I want to be able to fit an intake under the hood...what are the limitations on intake under the L88 hood? How large will fit RPM Air-Gap?

Under my L88 hood I have a small block with the RPM Air-Gap and a 1" spacer under the carb (Demon 825). With a 3" air cleaner on an Edelbrock base I have about 1/4" clearance when I close the hood.

I have a repro L88 hood in my room. I can't help you with what does/dont fit, but PM me if I can do some measurements that will help you.

I have a repro L88 hood on my 78. I have a BB under the hood and I have the Edelbrock RPM Performer Air Gap on it with a 1/2" spacer and a 3.5" tall K&N air cleaner. I'm using the L88-style drop base for the air cleaner, with the usual chrome lid. I have lots of hood clearance, I'm guessing probably another inch or so. Hood clearance is not an issue. My hood does not have the cold-air air box.

Yes, I used a L88 long style to get rid of the wiper door. This pic was from the vette before Hurricane Katrina put 30" of water in it. Dam I should have listened to my dad and put the vette on the car trailer before the storm.

OT, but love the blasters! (?) I was wondering what they'd look like on a C3. Very kewl.

With aftermarket hoods there will be some fitment required for a perfect fit. Count on it...

the hood I have is the long version, but 78's didn't have wiper doors anyways. the side gap between the hood and the fenders is a little excessive for my tastes, but probably in accordance with assembly line slop from those days.

I'm running a Weiand Stealth with a Holley 4150 and all the factory GM L88 stuff (hood, air cleaner, air box, drop base, etc.) It fits OK.

I am running an LT1/Big block hood with an Air Gap RPM. I run a drop base Lt1 cleaner, 3in K&N, an Extream top, a cut down choke tower, and a hold down bolt instead of a wing nut and stud... works well...

I like the LT1 hood over the L88.. the L88 has some visibility issues and it is over kill IMO... but hey that is just me

Could you post pics/describe how you go that to fit? This is what I'm going for, but the stock intake and a 3in K&N and extream top on a drop base barely fit. I don't know how much the drop base is, but I needed the 3in filter to clear the choke...I'll probably be putting a new carb on over the summer with no choke tower so that might help.

I situations like this, it's sometimes necessary to mention whether we're working on a SB or a BB...

My Stealth is on a BB.

OK. That's what I figured.

Cory is running a SB.

My Stealth, Holley 4150 (complete with choke horn), factory drop base, and 3" filter are literally 3/16" from the hood. I can't fit an insulating gasket under the carb. it's so close...

How tall is the stealth compared to the air gap? What do you think about the stealth you like it?

The L-88 hi rise hood is needed for hi rise intake like the RPM for BB.

There needs to be at least about 3/4" clearance over the Holley vent tubes.

The dimensions for the intakes are listed on their respective websites.

I'm happy with the Stealth, but if I run across an L88 intake, I'll snap it up and swap.
