Claus,
I think the blue and yellow are for the windshield squirter and should connect on the face of the pastic cover for the squirter mechanism. They should not be connected together.
JOE WHO is right. the red/orange wire is a fusible lnik which probably routes to your starter harness.
The connector in the last pic I can't identify.
First off...a wire that looks like that has a dead shot someplace handling some high amperage....can anybody say..."FIRE!!! FIRE!!!"...
Deal with it or you'll burn that car down to the bottom of the tires...it'll be a heap of molten fiberglass and rubber and steel...
I would trace the wires and find out where they go and see if there is a cut in the insulation making contact with a ground...very bad, very bad..and maybe you could tell us if there are any devices NOT working such as your wipers...or even your engine...
Just don't want ya to burn it down, Claus...I had a Pontiac years ago that burned the complete plastic wheel well out because of a high amp short...my fault it happened, stupid fog lites and ignorance on my part...just be aware it could be dangerous...
Good Luck
Get yourself one of those laminated wiring diagrams from Lectric Limited specific to your year. That has saved me many times in trying to figure out electrical problems.
Do youhave any suggestion what I should do with the big red one?? as you can see it is torn and the inside of teh wire is uncoreved
Claus,
The rubber insulation on the fusible links is usually softer and sometimes in a hot climate it can shrink back from the ends like yours did. This does not mean you have a short in that cicuit. If you did, the link would have burned like it's intended to do. Replacement fusible link wire is available at any of your auto parts stores. Just cut out the old one and replace with new link. Probably 30 amp. If none is available and originality is not an issue replace it with a 30 amp in-line fuse. All you really need here is good circuit protection.
Best,
Greg
Can somebody please tell me what those wires are for?? The location is just in front of wiper motor.
The blue and yellow was taped together and the tape was melted..
The big red one gets hot, when ignition is on
I beg to differ with Greg...in the above picture, where your fingers are, this was not cause by ambient heat...this was generated by a shorted circuit...the wire got so hot, probably red hot, it burned the insulation clean off...if any wire gets hot when ignition is on...it's shorted out...wires shouldn't get hot, at least not continually...a starter wire may get "warm" during continuous cranking, but once it starts it should cool off...something is shorted out...trust me
I better spend a few nights in the garage going thru all the wiering and proberly remove all the black tape around them so I am sure which wire goes where, and change the ones that have been damaged.
I´ll proberly bee back with more pics and questions :o
kb2fzq,
Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my post. I was talking about the fusible link wirenot the yellow and blue wires you are talking about.
The reddish orange wire is a fusible link.
And yes, the blue/yellow wires are melted from being directly shorted as I said in my earlier post.
Best,
Greg
Greg,
I understand your point...the fusy links "should have" blown, not melt...they obviously did not for some reason. They may be of a slow blow configuration and by the time they let go, the damage was already done...
The picture below shows arrows where heat distortion has occurred...
I think D-banker gets the idea...things are not right and he's gonna investigate....just wanted to point this out.
I have now taken the big step and cut the wires and removed the rubbermaterial in hope of finding some kind of fuse inside ?!?!??!
Apparently the wires are just tinned togehter - my question is then, is it original? what is the black wire for? do I stil have to put a fuse between when I put them together again?

If I were you, I would just replace the entire wiring harness period yes its a lot of work, and can get expensive (less than replacig a burned car though) but with older cars, if there is one problem, there are bound to be others, and the next thing you know all the smoke escapes from the wire and that is bad
if the harness is in good shape with no obvious problems then sure keep it, but with what you have, no telling what else is wrong, or what bubba may have done
BTW yea thats original wiring
