Claus . . . I wonder if the car had transistor ignition originally? I haven't worked on one in a long time so I can't remember the connector or wire colors, just a guess. A wiring diagram would verify.

ok looking at the wirinng diagram that i see this
thyel and blue that are splice are for the wiper motor the should have terminated in a three wire plug to the motor and lead to the switch inside and thewiper solenoid there was also a light grey wire in the same plug. so wiper switch control wires. so by splicing the blue and yellow wire he has connected the wiper switch with the wiper door relay, wich basically let him open the wiper door bypassing the relay, wich suggests a bad wiper switch, a bad relay, or both. or just plain old bubba. is the wiper actually there?
by the way this is from looking at the wiring diagram in UPC 12 of the 68 factory assembly manual
the other plug is supposed to be the plug that gives power to the motor itself . so wires coming out of the motor are supposed to connect into the plug you show there hanging free

Well...that's why they burned...obviously NOT fusey links...
The problem is either in the wiper motor or wiper door or both, they were direct spliced and the dead short is in one of those devices....since your wipers don't work...I'd look at that device first..
Can someone perhaps link me up with an online wiring diagram ( in color ) for a 1968??
I have found one in color for a 1970-71
However I don´t think that the BIG RED was burned. I think the 2 wires for the splasher ( blue / yellow ) that was taped together that burned the BIG RED.
For for the record a new wiper switch and motor has been orderen, but it takes 3-5 week to get to Denmark.
I have been told that the setup is original - can someone please tell my what the black wire does that are together with the BIG RED???
Thanks / Claus

ok the black wire goes to the ammeter, which is why it is spliced in like that again factory. Th orange is a jumper wire, and yes it is on the wiring diagram, connecting to the red which goes to the horn relay, as well as to the starter solenoid as a brown wire spliced in the harness further down. so the orange is not a fusable link, but a jumper wire bridging the ammeter to the horn relay and in turn the voltage regulator.
that about covers it yes?
Clarification.
if you were to start at the horn realy, it goes like this ... 20 guage red wire goes from terminal of relay along the harness to firewall, where it is split and spliced to a 20 guage orange wire ( seen in pic). The orange wire is in turn spliced to the black wire and that leads to the ammeter in the guage cluster. If you were to continues along the red from the splice, you would find the red wire spliced to a brown wire that connects to the starter soleniod.
Skoal!!
