I bought a repleacement from the Chevy dealer... there are some nice dampers out there, like ATI, but I didnt want to drop $300+ on a balancer....
go rent the puller/installer from the Pep Boys or Auto Zone when you do the job.. I've heard stories of people pulling the first few threads out of their crank when using the bolt to pull it into place.
I highly recommend ROMAC balancers! Very light and they are relatively inexpensive compared to other quality balancers! I'm using a ROMAC balancer on my race vette!!
I had to replace my balancer in Jan. Discovered that the old orig. had spun the outer ring, slid back against the timing cover and was burning oil inside the timing cover! Of course this was all hidden from view by the large pulley. I asked around for ideas on replacing it and found that most guys feel that a good OEM is all you need. I got the Summit #161350. I love it! It has a nice finish, well marked scale, and all four 90 degree markings stamped on it. It has made all the valve work and tuning much easier.

I use an ATI balancer. I had to hone it out a little to get it to fit though. I broke 2 puller/installers during the job though.
