I installed a 140 mph speedometer on my 81 and its reading about 15 mph high 45 at 30 ..I used a gps to measure my speed so I know my base speed was correct..Any ideas on how to fix this or do In have to have the speedo recalibrated..
The way to correct this situation is replace the spedo gear located at the side of the trans. it's plastic and the number of teeth determins the speed. This gear can be changed to correct the gauge. There are spedo shops only and can supply . You will be asked what rear gears you have ,tire size.and exact mph over or under.....easy fix
there is a shop in ft. laud area that rebuilds vette speedo's and calibrates as well. i need to get a 140 or 160 but its low on the priority list. either way find them and let me know when you do please as im next up.
There is nothing special about corvette spedo's any spedo shop can fix. Im not saying all corvettes just most c-3's are not to special. someone please correct me if im wrong.

Where did you score the 140 speedometer? Is it new or from a salvage yard? My 85 mph one drives me up the wall. When I'm breaking the law I want to know to what extent!
one of the good guys on the fourm sent it to me..wouldn't even let me pay the shipping.. There one for sale on the fourm from a 77 for $50 now.. or you can send your old one to corvetteinstruments.com.. for $80 he will redo yours
