Default Power steering pump question

I just ordered one as mine is leaking. Do I need to bring the pump somewhere to get the pully pressed on? I assume the pump comes without the pully. Please let me know...Thanks...

The late model Saginaw pumps had pressed on pulleys. These pumps have smooth shafts;i.e. no keyway slot. You should probably think about buying a pulley install/remover tool that is made expecially for this pump. I bought a K&B pulley remover tool. Wasn't too expensive.
On my pump, I have to remove the pulley to remove the pump from the bracket. This is something that pretty much has to be done on the car, hence I went and bought the tool. Actually, i installed a PS pulley last Friday using the tool.

AutoZone and O'Reilys both will generally pull the pully for you when you show up with your old pump.

Last time I pulled the pully I vaguely recall using a puller and an impact wrench to get it off the old pump then re-positioning the puller and using a ratchet to press it back on. No impact wrench - don't want to ruin the new pump.

They come with a bolt and nut to press the pulley back on. You just have to get the parts store to pull it off of the old one.

Right you are. It is all coming back to me slowly. Glad you mentioned it since I think I'll be replacing my pump this summer.

Just did it. The bolt and nut work great to press it back on. I jury rigged a small wheel puller to take the pully off.

The correct pulley removal tool will grip the groove in the pulley hub and react against the end of the pump driveshaft.

DO NOT try and grip the outside of the pulley where the belt runs and try and pull it off that way. All you will do is bend the pulley and ruin it.
