Since my interior of my '79 is in pieces I've been doing some cleaning. The wires have all kinds of splices in them from various bubba work.
The stock alarm relays are still there, but the horn is gone and there is no key hole to arm the alarm. I've never used this and see no use for it. Is any of this wiring/this extra relay box mounted to the parking brake arm rest needed for anything else?
you should probably get an assembly manual for your year vette. they are not that expensive and it is full of usefull information. especially if you want to find out where something is or if you find something and want to know what it is.
on my 73, the only relay in the area you describe is next to the shifter and it is for the seat belt buzzer. the wires for the alarm relay run past the shifter, but the alarm relays are mounted to the wall behind the passangers seat in the compartment where you access the jack.
it could be diferent on your 79. the assembly manual for 79 vette would be very helpfull here.

I do know that the switch for the alarm on the 79 is the drivers side door. Put the key in the lock and lock the door. This will arm the alarm on the 79. If it still works, you should hear it if you open the hood, remove a t-top, or open a door.
I have the assembly manual, service manual, and a poster sized wiring diagram from lectrics limited. It looks like the alarm circuits are independent from everything else, but I want to make sure it won't mess up anything else. I finaly got a handel on my lighting issues.
