Default Seat reclines too much

Crazy question, don't laugh.......

I have a 76 and the seats seem to recline too far back. Is there an adjustment I can make.
I order the assembly manual and it will take some time to get here. Hopefully it will show.

The interior was redone before I got the car so I am thinking that if there is an adjustment, that it was either left out or is covered.

Does anyone have a piture or can steer me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Mike

There are adjustable "bumpers" located where the upper and lower seats meet. However, if your seat frame is broken/bent, you will get that "lowrider" look. There is a metal plate repair piece available in the catalogs for this very situation.

Tilt the seat back forward. There are 2 adjustable bumpers at the rear of the seat cushion where the seat back rests against. Either they are too low or are missing.

Thanks for the replies. I'll look tonight. I have a feeling that they were left out.

The replacement bumpers are approx. $6.00 each. These screw into the bottom of the upper seat back. They allow you to change the angle of the seatback.

The bottom of the seat should have the steel screw that the bumper will rest against.

You can buy a refurbish kit that has 4 bumpers, 4 stoppers, and assorted spacers for the seat pivot. This sells for around $40.00. through Ecklers or Mid America.

Thanks to all.....I looked last night and cannot find the adjustment screw or stop. I guess the previous owner put the seat covers on over the holes.

Does anyone have a picture showing where they should be? I would hate to start cutting the seat covers in the wrong spot looking for the screw hole.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

PS Just got this 76 and its my first vette. I guess I'll have alot of questions. Can't wait until my assembly manual shows up.

Had that problem with my 75. Turns out the nut that holds the adjustable stopper had let loose on the welds. The rest of the frame was bent badly too. Between the bent frame, crushed cushion, and laid back seat back I could barely see over the steering wheel. I tore the seat apart and bent and welded things back to where they should be, along with new seat foam. Now even my 5'2" wife has no problems seeing over the wheel.
