Default deck surface questions

I'm getting ready to bolt my rebuilt heads back on. I'll be using Fel-Pro's .015 steel shim rubber coated gasket. I have a small nick on the deck surface & I'm wondering if this will be a problem?

Also, how clean does the deck surface have to be? I scraped off everything with a razor, sprayed & scraped gunk off with Permatex gasket remover 2X & used laquer thinner. But every time I wipe the deck surface with the thinner & a white rag I end up with a dirty rag...Thats telling me I still have stuff to clean off. Am I being too picky or do I need a truly spotless deck surface?

I believe that nick is away from an embossment, should be OK. Need an overall pic though, usually surface is smoother for RCM (rubber coated metal) but I don't have the Ra (surface finish) measurement off the top of my head. Think it needs to be 20 Ra or less. Towards the right side of your pic the area around the coolant port looks rough, pitted, that could cause some issues if the surface is still like that all around. Avoid spraying it with CooperCoat or other sealer like other posts.

Later.

What is Ra & how could I measure it? I saw that on the instructions that came with the gasket.

The rest of the deck surface is very smooth, no pitting or rust.

This would bump up my compression to around 9.9:1.

Make sure you run a tap thru the threads so your bolts torque properly.

Default on a side note

Is it wise to blow some compressed air into the cylinders to ensure there are no particles stuck somewhere along the piston rings?

Ra is the surface (roughness/smoothness) rating
