Couldn't figure out why my clock wouldn't work--after receiving a few answers on the forum, discovered that my circut board became brittle and hardly noticable, but seperated so it wasn't making contact. Only one I found is in Eclers for $197.99. Anyone know of a better price?
Also missing are two light adapters that screw into the circut board console, what do you call them and where can I get them? Thanks :chevy
Just go to the mall here on the forum. The light sockets come in small(part # D-538) and large (D-539). They list 2 printed circuits, part #'s D-515 and D-516. I don't know which is which. There should be sufficient info there for you to know which one you want... I got these numbers from my ZIP Catalog. Good luck!
I believe Corvette Central has them for $130-140. You really shouldn't be missing anything back there. Remember there is no check engine light for the non-California models. That comes into play later on the '81's (oxygen sensor). The '80 model is the last year before any computer crap. That's why I bought mine.
If you don't have catalogs from more than one vendor, it pays to get as many as you can. Most are free. It pays to compare prices on some parts, as you can see from a previous post someone other than Eklers has the same part for less $. As far as the sockets go, I saw those at a local Auto parts store. They can be found in the catalogs though.
Had the exact same problem on my '80. Pulled the center console and replaced the printed circuit (along with a boat load of "while I'm here" type things. That's another story). Here's what I did:
1) Tried ordering from the catalogs, but all were backlogged. Went to the Chevy dealer, he was competitive on price, and got me one in two days.
2) The light sockets can be picked up at any Pep Boys, NAPA, etc. Only cost a couple of bucks.
3) While I was at it, replaced my mechanical clock with a quartz model. Didn't want to have to go back in later.
4) Change ALL the bulbs and check ALL the sockets on the backside of the console.
5) While you're there, you may want to replace the clear gauge lense.
6) Another cheap fix while you're there is to replace the foam sealer that surrounds the center vents. It'll help hold them in place when you aim them.
7) Don't forget to change the bulb on the top of the console that illuminates the HVAC controls. This requires a special lamp. I ordered one from Eckler's (I think). Don't try to cheap out and use a standard bulb. I tried this and without the "focused" bulb end, it just doesn't produce enough light.
