Seems a little high on Hp. Is that the LS2 engine? If so then that's the ZO6 number he's quoting and not the GTO. If it's the LS1 then it's around 330-340 Hp with about 300 at the wheels give or take 10 based on it being a stick or a auto.

'06 GTO's are the 6.0L 400hp/400tq. As far as getting it to run, depends on all that it comes with, but factor in $2,000 for brackets, wiring and a tune. You'll have to buy new sensors, injectors, and any electricals because of the water damage. This of course if it come with all the accessories (water pump, alt,, fuel rails, )

As I'm sure you know that engine will have to be totally torn apart, cleaned and reassembled.

Yes The only reason I was thinking about it is he bought 1200 cars that were salvage to be crushed and he does have some ls1 and ls2 is what he told me I am going down there next week to see for myself what we want to strio before the crusher gets them.

Assuming the harness and computers are trashed, this motor would be a perfect candidate for a carburetor conversion. Edlebrock makes an intake manifold and stand-alone ignition system for the LS1 LS2 and that would make it almost a bolt in. You got a 6 speed to go with it?

I dont know all what they have down there. Its in Miss. at a staging area. He called and told me he bought 1200 cars for $100.00 each he told me about 600 are total trash that will be crushed and the others have good parts and about 100 of them are even drivable 3 2005 Lexus and 2 2005 BMW are drivable, so I cant wait to get there next week and look at all these. Also was told they have 800 more coming in next week to look at.

One question is are there significant differences between a GTO LS2 (or LS1) and a corvette engine, and will those differences make it even harder to adapt the engine for a corvette. I wonder if a tuner would be interested in these engines...........

Soon to be at a used car lot near you, with a fresh carpet change and a few replaced parts...
I hope your friend does the right thing and crushes those cars and not sell them to the sleazebag element of the used car industry. Get ready for a glut of Katrina flooded out cars sold as "pre-owned low mileage elegant automobiles at discount prices" with no mention of flooding.

Tell him I need a drivable car. I'll take a BMW. I need a first car.

I have seen some of the Katrina / Rita cars already they may look ok now but will be useless in a year or so. you would have to replace every wire and electrical component on theese cars. not to mention the water that probably got in the trans and engine. then brake components fail and fuel lines then bolts start rusting, get the idea
there is a reason the insurance company totaled those cars even if they still drive. look up under the dash as high as you can and look for rust on the brackets, no used car slease bag is going to pull the dash to clean that area, if you see rust run Forest run

I agree He is crushing the ones that were damaged other than the water and the water damage cars are being sold for salvage parts.

If you can get a free LS engine from your buddy, jump on it! So you have to put a little in. If it's an '06, how many miles can it have?
