So the engine sound great. In park I can hammer it without a backfire. Once in gear with a load on it it will still backfire from first to second gear. It only happens when gunned. Timming is perfect. At normal acceleration no backfire. I was thinking the carb needs a rebuild, maybe the floats. Mixture is right where it needs to be also along with the throtle. Any suggestions? Thanks, Matt

Vacuum leak,..check hoses and listen for a leak somewhere,..which on our C3's, there's a lot of places a leak can occur.

Good luck!

Well I just put in a new coil and guess what?? This machine couldn't be running better. No backfire and hitting all the gears. I wouldn't think something like that would make a difference. I burned out the last one doing a battery recharge. Simple Mallory from Discount Auto Parts and $100 later.
