I know some in the C3 group have used Spiral Turbo inserts in sidepipes. Has anyone used the "Car Chemistry" inserts? They're sold by Speed Direct, Jegs and Summit. Looking for information on sound levels and exhaust restriction. Also love to hear a sound clip of either on a small block.
yup, i got them in my three inch pipes. three disc inserts. very very loud. i'm going to get the www.speedwaymotors.com spiral baffles to help tone it down with two in each side.
Man, you beat me to it. I was going to post this same question this morning. I have 4" sidepipes on my 454. I'll watch this post. I'm looking for the loudest mufflers they make. I think no mufflers may get me into trouble with the law.
Well, the feedback I've gotten tells me that any inserts that will fit where I want 'em will be too loud. To keep the project moving, we'll stick in some cheap round glasspacks, know we're gonna hate the sound and deal with it later. Thanks for the response.
I've got the Spiral Turbos on my small block with a 3/8 hole drilled. As a point of reference, they are not as loud as my Harley, but louder than when the engine isn't running. I think they sound pretty good all in all. They are a little louder than the chambered ones I've heard, but that is probably because they are sidepipes.
They are pretty effective at covering the obnoxious sound from the lowlifes with those booming stereos...
I tried the Car Chemistry 3 disc baffles in my Hooker 4" collectors....made little difference over open pipe. The explanation I got from the company owner was there is not enough flow velocity in the large dia pipe for them to work as designed
I'm using the 3 disk design in my 3" full exhaust system just behind the headers with Borla mufflers out back. I don't think they quited the car a great deal, but they did remove an annoying resonance at about 40 mph.
I just ordered the Hooker glasspacks for my 4" sidepipes. They were fairly cheap, so if I don't like them, I'll probably try the reverse flow mufflers by Hooker. My car is not a daily driver so I want it loud. My big block should sound great with these on it.
