Default Hood Release Lever

My hood release lever does not return when I pull it. I have to push it back before closing the hood. Is there a spring connected somewhere that pulls the lever back? The car is a '77 coupe.

Spring is on the hood release under the hood where the cable connects. It should move back to the closed position after the hood pops up and you release the handle.

There's a spring on the latch part mounted on each side of the firewall. Maybe yours is broken/missing. My 78 and 71' both return when I let go of the handle. All the Vette parts suppliers have replacements.

Can someone point me to where I can get these springs? I can not seem to find them.

Thanks

I think I found the problem. I disconnected the cable going to the hood release handle and everything worked fine. Looks like I need to get a new hood release cable assembly.

Did you try lubricating the cable at the handle end?

That works. Shoot some on the end under the hood, too.
