Default Lock but NO Unlock

Hi all- I'm a new Corvette owner,a 1981.
When you push the switch down the doors lock. Are they suppose to unlock when you push the switch up?

Yes, but these babys are notorious for having bad switches and poor contacts at the plugs behind the switches. Try removing the door panels to get at the back of the switch, unplug it and clean the metal pins that go into the switch with some fine sandpaper, an emery board or a points file, then reassemble the switch and test for operation. You can also test the switch with an Ohm-meter at this time (before you plug it back in).
Good luck! And Welcome to the Forum!

Just a quick note for you. If you determine the switch to be bad for some reason and aren't concerned with having original switches, you can buy the lock switches at the local parts store for much cheaper than you can out of the catalogs. Like the replica switches in the catalogs the ones at the parts store do not have the word "Lock" written on them.
