I ordered a chrome housing for my alt and was wondering if anybody had any horror stories, or advise swapping the stock housing to chrome, ya know, any springs that will ping out, stuff like that?
Looks pretty straight forward...take out guts, put in guts, bolt on and go....any words of wisdom?
Fairly simple really, just read the directions and make sure you have it truned the right way for wire hookup and mounting. If not you'll end up redoing it several times. You need a couple short pieces of strong wire like #12 or #14 electrical works well.
I know if I found it easy it has to be easy
It's a piece of cake probably an hour tops. Just make sure you got the right size case. I ordered mine and it was for the 63 amp Alt too bad I had the larger 80 amp Alt on my car.
Yeah, this is no doubt the stock alternator, the case is ROUGH...so I should be ok....
Alright, just was wondering....as I've mentioned here before, with this car, I assume something will be a "piece of cake" and I often find it is not...thanks
If you have any questions, the Guys over at Powermaster are great. You can index the rear half in any relationship to the front half. This way you can have the plug and main wire to the bottom for a cleaner look under the hood. This I have done with excellent results. When you take it apart & put it together just be careful with the brushes. The directions should go through this, but I used a red straw, like one that comes with a can of brake cleaner, you know the lil skinny ones. This ensures you dont scratch or chip the brushes when reassembling. Any questions, like I said you can contact Powermaster or email me. One other thing, when torqing the two halves together, go easy and take notice how snug the bolts were when taking the original apart, even after 28 years my old ones were not very tight. Snug down the new ones and give the fan a whirl, it should be very free spinning, if not back off the bolts a little. Finesse!!
